Weatherproofing Conversations

It’s hot out there. For many neighbors this can mean electric bills pushed higher – not just due to running air-conditioning, but because gaps and cracks are letting in sweltering outdoor air. Equipping families to literally fill these gaps is a central part of our Healthy Homes and Neighborhoods program, and to that end Climate League staff and volunteers turned out for the Friday 8/7 for the City of Fort Smith’s Play Day at MLK Jr. Park. While kids enjoyed our bubble machine and face painting, parents picked up window weatherstripping and learned about additional home weatherproofing supplies and tools we have available at our Resource Center.

Monday morning one of the folks we spoke with at the park was waiting at our Resource Center to get additional life-improving supplies: a door sweep, large gap weather stripping, and a large window insulation shrink kit; they asked questions about how to install the items just right. We love to this kind of initiative. Just as impressive – this person said “I’m looking at getting my finances in a good place and am looking for a job, but how can I give back?” People are beautiful.
